Justin and I got out Sunday for a nice ride, just in time for the rain.

If you didn’t notice the storm move up and over the Wellsvilles before it danced across the valley, you missed out on a spectacular display. This dancing, drenching storm happened to rock Green Canyon at exactly the time when we were riding it.

I woke up around noon to a cloudy sky that was broken up by brilliant spots of sun. I figured the storm had passed and that I should get a ride in. I had a few things to do so I planned for 4 p.m. At 3:30, when I started to get ready, I noticed the temperature was dropping and the clouds seemed to be taking over more of that clear sky. Plans are plans, so I headed over to the shop.

Justin and I both thought a little wetness was worth getting a ride in, so we headed over to the canyon. It rained on us all the way over. We headed up and got soaked. About 2/3 of the way to the top, the rain slacked and the ballet that had been the storm came to a finale. We finished the ride under cloudy, but not raining skies.

At the top, the thermometer read 45 degrees, but with the effort it took to make it to the top we didn’t feel too cold. That changed very quickly, as we turned and headed back down the canyon. My gloves were soaked all the way through (I didn’t have the foresight to wear the waterproof ones) and my hands were completely numb by the time we got to the bottom. The vibrations from the trail combined with the cold were enough to make it nigh impossible to grip the bars.

The leaves were beautiful and the storm was fantastic. Yeah, we froze our asses off, but it was worth it…
