No. Not me. I'm S-L-O-W.
I took my kids to see the Evanston Criterium again this year, which is part of the ICC Superweek series. Something they offer every year are races on the course for kids aged 9 and under. It was actually my younger son's idea that he wanted to race it - he sort of insisted on it. So we signed him up and he lines up for the 1/2 mile 6 and 7 year old race with about 45 to 50 other kids. Here at the start are parents telling their little kids before the race about lines to…

I'm not sure why, but once every few weeks, I like to give my bike more love and attention for a 90 minute period than I've given to my wife of the last 20 years. Rags, brushes, solvent, and lube are not only the tools of a sadistic sex addict, but also for those of us who, like me, love to maintain their rides.
My current road bike is a number of years old and has over 11K miles on it. But it still looks pristine, the cassette is 'clean enough to eat off of' (as one jealous cohort put it), and…

Fixed Gear Death Trap

It's the end of May and my fingers were numb from the cold at the end of a ride yesterday. Warmth coming this weekend (finally - we've been below normal, it seems, since last October!) means we can take early morning or evening rides without our winter gear. Yippeeee!!!

OK, cycling itself doesn't make anyone fat. If more people cycled in the USA, my country would be a leaner, healthier, and happier place. But I'm working on an article about my experience this summer. Where I got faster and dropped 3.5 lbs of weight (losing 5.5 lbs of muscle and gaining 2 lbs of fat). By riding a lot. And not lifting like I normally do. Type II fiber dominant types need beware.
More to come....
